Tofino - random pictures Long Beach

The world's second largest country by total area can offer plenty of surfing experiences. The city of Tofino, located in the Vancouver Island, is Canada's surfing capital. The place is six hours from Vancouver, on the mainland. Chesterman Beach, Cox Bay and Long Beach deliver some of the best wave in British Columbia. f you are driving from Parksville's it will take you about 3 hours. The road is very narrow at certain points but very beautiful. Some of the road over looks the ocean.

The ocean is very cold. You will require a wet suit even in the summer. My children will swim in ocean in their bathing suits because they are used to it but i would recommend a wet suit.

The first time we took the kids surfing we rented from "Surf Sisters". I was attracted to the name and that it was a women owned business. We had them take the kids out for a lesson. The twins were only 8 at the time so i was worried about their safety. The staff was helpful, friendly and fun. The next time we went we rented the board and suits from "The Surf Shack". They were great - no problems. It is not a cheap sport - the boards to buy range from $700 and up. Rentals with lessons were also not cheap about $400 but worth the experience.

Tofino is not just for surfing, storm watching and whale watching tours are also available in town. I have been on the whale watching tour with Jamie's whaling and saw bears, eagles and a grey whale. I am not suggesting Jamie's because most of the tours are about the same price.

The boat trip that I took was up to the natural hot baths. I believe that after sitting in the natural hot baths I was able to become pregnant with my twins. I only had 10% chance of ever having children again and became pregnant that weekend.

The town of Tofino is very cool - they took a vote and would not allow Starbuck's to set up business. They are very much into keeping the city "real". That means hippy haven.

  1. Renee, would you like to do a guest post on tofino-info.com? I am creating the website and putting up information pages like http://tofino-info.com/hiking-trails-tofino-bc-canada/ but also wanting to develop the blog from people who have experienced tofino and loved it enough to write something about it. Thanks!
